Jenny Lykourezou and Andreas Zaharatos photographs takes us on a journey of discovery of places we didn’t know or thought we did. Their project on Calabria and Mani juxtaposes these two enchanting lands in Italy and Greece, revealing the towns and people of two regions often perceived as remote and wild. The photographers were not distracted by superfluous, superficial details but reveal the deep Mediterranean bond shared by Calabria and Mani, Italy and Greece.
Their photographs force us to step out of our comfort zone, to stop thinking, freeing ourselves from the dizzying rush of the day to day, from the lights and bustle of our contemporary society. Discovering the fierce distinctiveness of Mani and Calabria is thus a broader invitation to once again approach the essence of things – which is exactly what we overlook or which we believe we know.
